I've had a go at creating an example template: Template:Postcodes Issue (I consider free access to government information important, and it's being discussed at a high level with the government and professors Sir Tim Berners Lee and Nigel Shadbolt). You can create a template like this and include it in a page using {{Postcode Isses}} saving cut-and-paste hell. Also, putting a category in the template means the page Category:Postcode_Issues will link to all the pages using the template. 62.3.233.9 08:33, 17 November 2009 (UTC)

Please fix the "Here is" link on the frontpage, it's very difficult to see. Perhaps a bullet list? 62.3.233.9 08:42, 17 November 2009 (UTC)

Issues

Do you intend to create articles on "issues" - such as drugs, homoeopathy or faith schools along with suggestions about why people might wish to be skeptical about such things? --Bob M 18:17, 17 November 2009 (UTC)

Might be a good idea. --Arthur 18:10, 19 November 2009 (UTC)

New Main Page

I've knocked up an experimental new Main Page to replace the current page. You can view it here. User:Arthur/Test. Any ideas?--Arthur 17:56, 11 December 2009 (UTC)

Looks pretty good to me. I particularly like the "Skeptical Contents" box - it allows people to navigate into the content in different ways depending on what interests them.
I'm not sure about the "the good, the bad and the ugly" as titles. It seems like it's pushing our opinions on readers, rather than saying "here are the facts, make up your own mind" which I suspect that most "skeptics" would prefer (besides, my suspicion is that, unfortunately, we would run out of choices for "the good" after a few rounds of updates...). So that this isn't just a negative comment, I'll suggest an alternative: Maybe just a one or two-liner for each politician: "Lynne Jones - PhD biochemist, now Labour MP for Selly Oak.", "Graham Stringer proposed Early Day Motions against creationism and alternative therapies.", "Lembit Öpik believes that the onus is less on homeopathy to prove that it works, but more on homeopathy's detractors to prove it does not work." etc. You might have intended this anyway, but I'll suggest that this section could soon become "Previously featured politicians" once we have a few rounds of featured politicians - this would save the work of going through all the MPs and candidates looking for new people to include each time the Main Page features are updated.
Also, I notice in the "Participate in Skeptical Voter" box, it only mentions MPs - not candidates. I think it should explicitly include both - particularly as it's often harder to know where new candidates who have no voting record stand on different issues, so research into their views is especially valuable.
In summary I'd say excellent stuff, and it's so much better than the current "basics" Main Page that I don't see any point in not moving it over as soon as possible.

Thanks. I added a note about candidates to the "Participate in Skeptical Voter" box.

Regarding the "Good, Bad, Ugly" section - you're right that a short description would be more appropriate. Especially as MPs generally are a mixed bag rather than firmly "bad" overall. Someone like Öpik is all over the place, and in retrospect, it is preferable that his views on homeopathy are highlighted rather than his whole career judged.

I don't have administrator rights, so I can't proceed with any changeover onto the main page. Also have no idea how to get hold of anyone as it seems it a bit quiet round here. --Arthur 11:30, 12 December 2009 (UTC)

Can I suggest you put the MP survey Front and Centre of the front page? As a new visitor it was naturally the first thing I wanted to read, to check it was in-line with my views, but it took me ages to find it nested deep within the site.--MarbleMad 19:30, 18 April 2010 (UTC)

Update required

I can't seem to edit the front page. Evan Harris is no longer an MP. Please can someone fix it? --Andybuckle 19:33, 18 May 2010 (UTC)
