Animals in Medical Research

In 2006, Peter Robinson signed Early Day Motion 1850: Animals in Medical Research which noted that "animal research is only permitted where there is no better alternative and that pain and suffering are minimised and balanced against the potential benefit to humans and animals", supported "the building of the new state of the art biomedical research laboratory at Oxford University", condemned "unlawful animal rights extremism, including any violence, harassment or intimidation of those associated with lawful animal research", and supported "the well-regulated use of animals in medical research".[1]

In March 2010, following the publication of the House of Commons Science and Technology Committee's report "Evidence Check 2: Homeopathy", Peter Robinson signed Early Day Motion 908: Science and Technology Committee Report on Homeopathy, which was critical of the report[2].

May 2015:

Blasphemy Law

On 6th May 2008, Peter Robinson voted with the four other DUP MPs present against a Lords amendment to abolish the common law offences of blasphemy and blasphemous libel[3]. The amendment was nonetheless passed by a vote of 378 to 57.

Views on Homosexuality

When asked in October 2008, in an interview with BBC NI's Hearts and Minds programme[4], about his wife Iris Robinson's recent statements on homosexuality, Peter Robinson said:

"It wasn't Iris Robinson who determined that homosexuality was an abomination, it was the Almighty. This is the Scriptures, and it is a strange world indeed where somebody on the one hand talks about 'equality', but won't allow Christians to have the equality, the right to speak, the right to express their views."

Asked if he shared her views he stated:

"I believe the Bible to be the Word of God, and I very much support the Scriptures."
