Claim about Turkey Joining the EU
Campaign group The Alliance for Lobbying Transparency have said that Ms Mordaunt "hasn’t been completely straightforward with voters about her links to lobbying". They highlight links to the communications and lobbying firm Media Intelligence Partners, and the PR and lobbying consultancy Hanover, noting that she worked with a number of their healthcare clients.
Penny Mordaunt is a member of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Integrated Healthcare. She was previously Vice-Chair.
In June 2010, Penny Mordaunt signed Early Day Motion 342: British Medical Association Motions on Homeopathy which expressed regret at a number of motions passed at the recent BMA annual representative meeting that "oppose further commissioning and funding of homeopathic remedies in the NHS", and "notes that 140 books have been published on homeopathy and that there is overwhelming anecdotal evidence that homeopathy is effective".
Health Committee Nomination
In February 2015 Penny Mordaunt voted in favour of allowing mitochondrial donation, which would allow women who carried mitochondrial diseases to have genetically related children who would not inherit the disease. An October 2014 briefing report by the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA), which had been investigating the issue for three years, stated that there was no evidence to show that mitochondrial donation was unsafe. However, some religious groups had said that such procedures should not be allowed. After clearing both Houses mitochondrial donation is now legal, regulated by the HFEA.
Prayers at Local Authority Meetings
On 16th December 2014, Ms Mordaunt spoke in Parliament in favour of the Local Government (Religious etc. Observances) Bill 2014-15, which would allow prayers, religious observances or philosophical observations to take place as part of the business of local authorities in England and Wales.
