Alban Maginness is a Social Democratic and Labour Party MLA for North Belfast. He is also parliamentary candidate for Belfast North in the 2015 UK general election, having stood as a candidate in the seat in every election since 1987.
In October 2012, in the vote on the Marriage Equality motion, Mr Maginness was the only MLA to abstain by voting in both lobbies. All the other 37 Nationalist MLAs to vote voted in favour of the motion.
